Visarts Residency Demonstration
During her residency workshop at Visual Arts Center Michelle introduces potters to a variety of techniques she uses in her practice in the rediscovery of lost ceramic arts including delftware, slipware, agatewares, and life casting techniques. Students tried their hand at several 18th and 19th century British slipware methods including a highly refined marbleized slip technique, colored dendritic teas made from tobacco juice and metallic oxides and Erickson's handmade three chambered slip pot or 'tripple slipper' used in creating the tricolored slip dots known as 'cats eye' and 'cable patterns' in industrial Staffordshire slipware production. The 'balloon slipped' skull was a favorite!
